Story by Lyda Kay Ferree, Photography by Woody Woodard.
On November 6, Union University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of its new library, which was under construction for 16 months.
More than 1,000 people attended the ceremony held on the steps of the library. Lisa Rogers, Chair of Trustees, opened the ceremony, and Union President Dr. Samuel W. (“Dub”) Oliver thanked the over 1,500 people who gave to the project and made it a reality. A reception and tours of the library followed the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The name of the library, The Logos, comes from the Greek word for “word” and is used as a description of Jesus in John 1.
The three-story, 53,000-square-foot facility is a state-of-the-art academic resource center for the university featuring expanded space for library holdings, study and meeting rooms, the Modero coffee shop, administration offices and archives. The beautiful new library is a centerpiece of the Union University campus and has a cross pointing to the sky which may be seen for miles.
